Miranda July review is up

Here's the review I wrote for the Austin Chronicle of Miranda July's book of short stories. in brief, the book is the best collection of short fiction I've read in a long time, maybe since I first read George Saunders. Very nice.

Digby speaks

Digby is one of the single best writers in the liberal blogosphere and is one of my personal faves. She recently came out and spoke in public. Before this, her identity (gender even) was a secret. Check our this sweet speech.

Those crazy Yellow Tape kids

Have a new little promo video for their upcoming show at the OffCenter. Check it, and them, out. I have no idea what the show is about. It will probably be crazy in a silly kind of way, which is their wont. A yellow hand is probably involved.

Feels Good

Shana and I seem to be in a nice groove right now with our Get Up shows. Last week was a good show, and we got a nice review in the Chronicle as mentioned below. Then our show last night was even better. Nice, full house, and I could just tell we were going to rock it from the opening music the audience selected from Sara's collection--really dramatic action movie kind of stuff. Sara described it as Jurassic Park music. We wound up doing something of a fantasy/fairy tale kind of story. After the show, people were really complimentary of us, and it feels like people are starting to understand what Shana and I do and have to offer.

For a taste of both what happened in the show, and also how it was recieved (although this reaction is a bit extreme), check out David's post over here.

This is too funny

Go read this over here at the Talent Show. Turns out there's a new weight-loss drug on the market now that, if you don't eat healthfully, makes you exposively fart and have disgusting bowel movements. So damn funny.

Money quote:

“It’s conditioning. It’s like if you eat this stuff, you’re going to have an unpleasant toilet experience,” Dr. Konoy Mandal with Research Medical Center said. “It’s not going to sound good, it’s not going to look good and you’re not going to be very popular in public.”

Get Up got a nice little review

in the Chronicle today. You can check it out here.

You can bet quotes like this are going in our press materials:

McCormick and Merlin are comfortable working together, like two parts of an interlocking dream machine...

I have not blogged in quite some time

Going to Mexico, moving, work, opening a new theater, starting a run of shows, planning the festival, have all conspired against it.

But here I am. And so, today's Emmett quotable:

E: (while placing a disposable plastic cup on my head) You look like a security guard.

Sh: (eyebrow arched) I do, huh.

E: Yep, when you wear a hat, you look like a security guard.

In that sentence, he meant 'you' in the sense of 'one;' he wasn't just talking about me. Stick a plastic cup on your head and tell your co-workers you're a security guard. See how that works for you.
